Information on Admissions
At Abbey Gate College we operate a clear and fair system of selective entry at various ages, dependent upon places available. In addition to our formal events inviting visitors to College, such as Open Day, we encourage prospective parents and pupils to make a personal visit to see the College in action.
Usual points of entry into the Senior School are at Year 7 (11+), Year 9 (13+), and into the Lower Sixth. In our Junior School entry is usually at Reception age but applications at all ages are welcomed wherever places are available.
A limited number of Bursaries are available at age 11 upwards. Academic and sports awards are offered at 11+ and are means tested. There are two prestigious musical scholarships offered each year in Year 7. The Daphne Herbert Choral Scholarship and a Music Exhibition are awarded following audition. Scholarships
The deadline for applications for the Music Scholarships is Friday 15th January 2010. Auditions will take place on Wednesday 20th January 2010.
The deadline for the Sports Awards is Wednesday 20th January 2010. The Sports Awards Test will take place on Monday 25th January 2010.
Senior School
11+ Entry:
Taster Days for Year 6 are offered towards the end of the Autumn Term:-
Tuesday 10th November and Wednesday 18th November 2009
Entrance Examination: Monday 25th January 2010 (for entry September 2010)
All candidates are assessed in Mathematics, English, Verbal/Non Verbal Reasoning and undergo an information interview with senior staff. Places are offered based on these results in conjunction with a reference from the current school.
13+ Entry:
Entrance Examination: Monday 25th January 2010 (for entry September 2010)
As with all other age groups assessments are made in English, Mathematics and Science and include an interview, reference from current school and a copy of the last full school report.
Sixth Form:
Places are made subject to satisfactory GCSE results (a minimum of 6 subjects at C and above), an interview and a sound reference from current school.
Sixth Form Information Evening: Thursday 19th November 2009 at 7pm
Aldford
Assessments for Reception (with limited places) are made in January each year and will be held on Tuesday 26th and Wednesday 27th January 2010.
At all other ages, assessments are held in Mathematics and English and are carried out over a day in school, so that we can observe the children in a broader environment.

More Musical Success - Peter Edge wins at the Eisteddfod
Year 11 student Peter Edge won the 15-20 yr old vocal class at the International Eisteddfod at Llangollen coming away with a prize of £200. He competed against singers from all over the world, some of which are already students at music Colleges.
U15 cricket - a first class victory!
On Wednesday 16th June the Year 10 cricket team (plus Oliver Handley from Year 7), entertained Bishop Blue Coat School. In his maiden game as captain Simon Povey won the toss and decided to field first.
The 8 bowlers used proceeded to bowl out the opposition for 40 runs. A prolonged spell of accurate bowling brought its rewards for Rory Jones, who took 3 wickets and Harry Fairclough, who took 4 wickets (including 3 wickets in 4 balls).

Rugby- For the first time in over 15 years the College was able to put out a 1st XV team in an U19 tournament played at Sandbach rugby club this February.
Chester Schools Football
Abbey Gate College hosts Chester Schoolboys Footballers Presentation Evening with the Duke of Westminster
Chester Schools Football Association have been running official inter school competition for over 100 years. His Grace the Duke of Westminster has been the President of the CSFA since the 1970s. Without hesitation he donated money and on Saturday 17th April he reaffirmed his Presidency by attending a presentation evening hosted by Headmistress Lynne Horner at the fabulous venue of Abbey Gate College.
Small Business Master Class
Small Business Master Class
Years 11 and 12 attended a Small Business Master Class at the College on Wednesday 3rd March 2010. The class gave the students a valuable insight into the world of business, communications and team work by helping them to develop an understanding of the opportunities open to small business owners The interactive day proved to be very informative and rewarding and in addition most enjoyable.
