Oh What a Lovely War
A cast of thirty five actors and musicians from Year 7 to Year 13 at Abbey Gate College performed Joan Littlewood's 'Oh What a Lovely War'.
This highly acclaimed musical is a satirical chronicle of the horrors of the First World War, told through songs, dances and photography in the form of music-hall seaside entertainment.
Historical documents of the period were used to create highly entertaining but hard-hitting dramatic sketches, which detail historical events through buffoonery and sharp irony to expose the appalling futility of war.
The production was directed by drama teacher Laura Haskey and the musical director was Stewart Smith.
This impressive production played to a full theatre for 4 nights and prompted a spontaneous standing ovation on the last night.
The Chapel Choir led Evensong at the Abbey to over 600 visitors every evening.
