On Wednesday 16th June the Year 10 cricket team (plus Oliver Handley from Year 7), entertained Bishop Blue Coat School. In his maiden game as captain Simon Povey won the toss and decided to field first.
The 8 bowlers used proceeded to bowl out the opposition for 40 runs. A prolonged spell of accurate bowling brought its rewards for Rory Jones, who took 3 wickets and Harry Fairclough, who took 4 wickets (including 3 wickets in 4 balls).
The team also took a series of fine catches with not one chance being spilled. Ben Handley and Ben Phillips opened the batting for Abbey Gate and their mature and sensible approach took them past the visitors total after 9 overs, with Handley finishing on 21 not out and Phillips on 13 not out.
This was a first class team performance and every individual contributed to an excellent victory. Well done lads.
