  • user warning: Table './abbeygate/cache_filter' is marked as crashed and should be repaired query: UPDATE cache_filter SET data = '<!--paging_filter--><p>\n&#160;\n</p>\n<p>\n<strong>The Abbey Gate College Boys Tennis Tournament</strong>\n</p>\n<p>\nDuring this years summer term, The College PE department organised a Year 7/8 singles tennis tournament. 32 pupils in total entered the competition and produced some excellent tennis; the Y 8 tennis team (Billy Reeves, James Faulkner, Daniel Parker and Eddie Speed) found they had been given a lucky draw when they had been placed at opposite ends of the knock out round. However, they were made to work hard in every match and some of the Y 7’s proved to be tough opponents, not just for the Y8 tennis team players but for all those Y8’s who entered the competition.\n</p>\n<p>\nAt one end of the knock out competition, Eddie Speed made it through round 1 and the last 16 but failed to beat Daniel Parker in the quarter finals. Daniel was on form and had the final in sight but he was beaten by Alistair Marks, who was a wild card entry for this tournament, in the semi-finals.\n</p>\n<p>\nAt the other end of the draw, Billy Reeves and James Faulkner beat their opponents in round 1, last 16 and the quarter finals to eventually meet each other in the semi-finals. This game was hyped as one of the biggest matches; many pupils compared it to the Wimbledon Final in 2008 when Federra beat Nadal to claim the ultimate trophy in tennis!\n</p>\n<p>\nThe eventual winner of the semi-final between Reeves and Faulkner was Billy Reeves who played at his best to beat the in-form Faulkner. Billy was to take on the wild card ‘Alistair Marks’ in the final on Centre Court and a large crowd descended on ‘Ali’s Hill’ to watch this wonderful encounter.\n</p>\n<p>\nThe two players in the final played to their best, the commitment given and the focus of both players was incredible.
